The basmati rice can be turned into many dishes and gives a delicious taste. Now, the question is which country is most popular for exporting basmati rice?

The most popular country for exporting basmati rice is India. It is the leading country for exports, India contributes to the international global markets to a larger extent.

In the year 2015-16, the country has a record of exporting around 40.45 lakh MT of Basmati and non-basmati rice records 36.66 lakh MT. Rice is notably the prominent dish which is consumed across the globe. 

India is the most popular country that exports to many countries, the quality and texture filled with various nutrients are only available in Indian land. The rice here is remarkably the best quality. 

The main top 5 destinations that imports largely from India are:

  1. Saudi Arabia – It is the topmost country that demands high quality rice largely. The recent records says, India has exported around 1,035,026.00 quantity rice which values around 705,902.80 lacs.
  1. Iran – The second largest importer that demands Indian basmati and non-basmati rice. It has a value of around 438,549.86 lacs.
  1. Iraq – It is also tops in the list with a record of exporting value 370,872.07 lacs.
  1. Yemen Republic – This country also imports a large quantity from India. It accounts for the value of 206,781.55 lacs.
  1. United Arab Emirates – It is the country that imports rice from India largely. The records it covers, around 152,074.65 lacs.

These are the major countries that import both types of rice from India. The fine quality of rice originated in the Indian region of Himalayas, sub-continent. The rice grain is soft, and fluffy texture while being cooked, it gives the superior taste and royal essence to the dish.

Aim To Boost The Exports:

There are many campaigns that are running to boost the exports of rice throughout the world. The major authorities that run the campaign are: BEDF (Basmati Export Development Foundation) and APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority).

These authorities launched an awareness campaign in majorly seven states that are: Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu kashmir. 

The intention of the camp is to create awareness for farmers about the correct use of pesticides and avoid the excessiveness of it. It would harm the crops and hamper the nutritional value.

The authority of APEDA, suggested to farmers about using quality checks with scientific techniques and using certified seeds to maintain the nutrients and quality of the grain.

On the other hand, the BEDF authorities have provided the helpline number for the counseling or help of the farmers. In order to help farmers regarding rice cultivation. 

Exports Records:

In the latest year 2020-21, India recorded around 4.63 million tons of basmati rice that value in rupees about 28,849 crores. 

To put simply, rice exports in total grew 10.5 percent from the previous records. In the months of 2021, April to October, the exports from rice exporters of India almost touched 60 percent growth in comparison to the past year values.

If we look at the volume of rice, it almost doubled to 17.71 million tons from the 9.5 from the year ago. The basic reason behind this is the stocking up of various countries. 

In order to avoid the scarcity of food many countries began to import more from India to keep stock in the pandemic situation of Covid-19. And, basmati rice is famous all the way which results in an increase in rice exports from India.

Even though the pandemic situation faces a relief side, the demand for rice is rapidly increasing. As per the records, India has already exported 8.3 million tons till the september.

Amongst the countries, Saudi Arabia is the topmost country to import rice from India. And, in records there are almost 200 countries that import rice from Indian rice exporters. The exports of rice contribute largely to the Indian economy and global trade market.
