Indian Rice Exports Create Record: APEDA

India is the largest producer of paddy rice in the world during FY 2020-21 and Indian Rice Exporters create a new record. According to the Indian Institute of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) , the total export of rice from India jumped to an all-time high of 1.77 billion tonnes from 2020-21 (April-March).

On the other hand, according to the US Department of Agriculture(USDA) report, a total of 12.10 million tonnes of rice is estimated to be produced in India during the marketing season of 2021-22. This level of production is 10 billion tonnes less than the estimated production of 2020-21 season by 12.20 million tonnes but 21 billion tonnes more than the review production of 11.89 billion tonnes from 2019-20.

According to the report of the American organization, India had the outstanding stock of 299 million tonnes of rice at the beginning of the 2020-21 season, while its total availability has increased to 15.19 million tonnes with the production of 12.20 million tonnes. The final balance stock of 2.59 million tonnes is expected to be sold at the end of the season after 10.70 million tonnes for domestic use and 190 billion tonnes exported. The total availability of rice is likely to be 14.69 million tonnes in the 2021-22 season, with an outstanding stock of 259 billion tonnes, and production of 12.10 million tonnes in India.

Out of this, 1080 billion tonnes of rice is estimated to be used in domestic division and 155 billion tonnes is likely to be exported internationally. After that, India will likely sell surplus stock of 2.34 million tonnes of rice at the end of the 2021-22 marketing season.

According to the latest USDA report, global rice production is expected to increase by 50.604 million tonnes in the 2021-22 season as compared to the production of 50.494 million tonnes and 2019-20 production of 49.494 million tonnes.The report said that the total availability of rice, including the outstanding stock, would have been 68.097 million tonnes, which was 68.278 million tonnes in 2020-21 and 67.434 million tonnes in 2019-20.

According to the US Institute, the global trade of rice is projected to decline to 471.20 billion tonnes in the 2021-22 seasons from 490.60 billion tonnes in the 2020-21 season. There was a global trade of 433.80 billion tonnes of rice in 2019-20. The total global consumption of rice in the 2020-21 season is expected to increase by 51.399 million tonnes, estimated to be 50.786 million tonnes from the 2020-21 season and consumption exceeds 49.649 million tonnes from 2019 to 20.
