Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has raised concerns with the European Agriculture Commissioner JanuszWojciechowski<\/em> over the EU association fixing the specific limit for Tricyclazole Fungicide. It is affecting India’s basmati rice exports. In this online meeting, the two countries discussed the EU’s Common Agriculture Policy and recent market reform in India, a government statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union has cut the maximum and remaining limits of Tricyclazole used in India to protect the paddy crop from blast diseases. This has put basmati rice exporters<\/strong><\/a> in trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from other issues related to agriculture, Tomar also raised in the meeting the problem of fixing the maximum residue limit of Tricyclazole<\/a> <\/em>to be used in rice crops which have been a matter of concern for India. This is affecting India’s Basmati rice exports to the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Agriculture Minister said that all the necessary studies and documents had been given to the EU in May 2021. The maximum residue limit will be decided by the second quarter of 2022 before the next session. Until then, the issue will be addressed through other measures which can be solved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the statement, the European Agriculture Commissioner said that such issues are not within his jurisdiction. However, they have assured the Indian side to take up these issues with their respective partners in the European Commission. He also mentioned that the EU had set a target of bringing 25% of the EU’s area under organic or pesticide-free farming by 2030. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
